Do you have people in your life who always seem to be right? They are adamant, prideful, unteachable, and difficult to reason with. Conversations get twisted, misunderstandings arise, and you walk away feeling drained or confused. Could there be a deeper spiritual root at work? The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers (NKJV). What you are experiencing may not just be personality traits but the operation of a demonic hierarchy—specifically the Leviathan spirit.
In this teaching, we are going to expose the Leviathan spirit, understand how it works in relationships, and learn how to walk in freedom and peace when confronted with its manifestations.
What is the Leviathan Spirit?
The Leviathan is described in the Bible as a sea creature, a twisting serpent, a prideful beast. Job 41 gives us a description of Leviathan, highlighting its strength, its pride, and its destructive nature (MEV). The Leviathan spirit is often referred to as a marine spirit, meaning it operates out of the water realm—a place the enemy uses as a counterfeit to God’s Holy Spirit, who is represented in scripture as living water.
The Leviathan spirit operates through pride, control, twisting words, offense, and rejection. It is unteachable and untrainable. People under its influence will often appear controlling, easily offended, and unable to receive correction. They dominate conversations, interrupt, and always seek to prove themselves right.
How Pride Manifests in Relationships
Pride is the doorway through which Leviathan enters. Scripture warns us, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18 NKJV). A person influenced by Leviathan cannot admit wrong. They will twist words and conversations, making you feel as though you said something you never said. They will project their wounds and rejection onto you, blaming you for their pain.
For example, you may go to the store to buy groceries and forget one small item your spouse asked for. Instead of understanding, they accuse you of not caring for them. What should be a minor mistake becomes an emotional blow-up fueled by offense and rejection. This is Leviathan at work—twisting truth, magnifying offense, and sowing division.
Stop Arguing with People, Start Discerning Spirits
One of the greatest revelations in dealing with Leviathan is this: you are not arguing with a person—you are arguing with a demon. Jesus demonstrated discernment when dealing with people under demonic influence. In Matthew 16:23, He rebuked the spirit speaking through Peter, not Peter himself (CJB).
When someone under Leviathan’s influence says hurtful or twisted things, it is the spirit operating through them. Arguing with them only fuels the demon. The best course of action is to walk away, pray, and address the spirit in the secret place of prayer.
The Hierarchy of Leviathan and Jezebel
Leviathan rarely works alone. It partners with other spirits such as Jezebel (control), rejection, and offense. Together, these form a demonic hierarchy that keeps people bound in cycles of pride, emotional abuse, and relational destruction.
When a person is bound by this combination, they often cannot see their own faults. They blame others, feel victimized, and resist freedom. That is why it can be very difficult to deliver someone who does not want deliverance. But while they may not be ready, you can walk in freedom by not engaging, learning to discern, and interceding for them in prayer.
How to Protect Your Heart and Mind
The Bible instructs us to “Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23 MEV). When dealing with a Leviathan spirit in your household, workplace, or relationships, it is crucial that you:
- Do not take offense when offense is thrown at you.
- Refuse to engage in endless arguments.
- Pray for discernment to recognize when a spirit is speaking instead of the person.
- Release forgiveness quickly, so bitterness cannot take root.
By doing these things, you keep your own spirit clean and prevent the enemy from gaining ground in your life.
Questions to Ask Yourself
- Do I recognize characteristics of Leviathan in someone close to me?
- Have I unknowingly partnered with offense, pride, or rejection in my own life?
- Do I discern when an argument is spiritual rather than natural?
- How can I pray effectively for those influenced by Leviathan without becoming emotionally entangled?
- Am I guarding my heart and walking in forgiveness daily?
Prayer Declarations for Freedom
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, I renounce every spirit of Leviathan, pride, rejection, and offense operating against me and my loved ones.
I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against me in judgment I shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17 NKJV).
I decree that my household will walk in humility, love, and unity. I bind every twisting spirit that distorts communication and command it to loose its hold now in Jesus’ name.
I declare that I will not argue with demons but walk in the wisdom and discernment of the Holy Spirit.
I proclaim that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7 MEV).
Amen.

A Final Word of Encouragement
You may feel alone if you are living with someone who operates under Leviathan’s influence. But you are not alone. Many people face these same battles. What matters is that you recognize the spiritual battle for what it is and learn how to respond in wisdom.
God has not left you without weapons. His Word, the power of prayer, the authority of Jesus’ name, and the anointing of the Holy Spirit equip you to walk in victory. As 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 reminds us, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (MEV).
