The words we speak carry immense power, and so do the words spoken over us. Scripture tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21 MEV). Words are not just sounds; they are carriers of spiritual assignments, life directions, or demonic hindrances. What is released from a person’s mouth—whether in gossip, slander, jealousy, or control—can forge strongholds in the spiritual realm if left unchallenged.
The Invisible Swords of Word Curses
During prayer one day, the Lord revealed something profound to me. As I asked Him to cleanse my spiritual atmosphere, I suddenly saw swords in the spirit—embedded in my back, a visual representation of the word curses that had been spoken over me. Each one carried a demonic assignment, working subtly behind the scenes to restrict my movement and destiny.
What words have been spoken over your life? Do you remember an authority figure, parent, or even a pastor who spoke something limiting or negative into your spirit?
The Jezebel spirit thrives through control, manipulation, fear, and domination. When someone operating under that spirit speaks, especially from a position of authority or emotional influence, their words can carry power unless broken.

Jezebel’s Strategy: Silence the Prophetic
The Jezebel spirit is a master at controlling voices, particularly prophetic ones. It was Jezebel who threatened Elijah after his great victory on Mount Carmel, causing him to flee in fear (1 Kings 19:1–3). The enemy still uses the same tactics today—to silence, intimidate, and destroy.
Jezebel doesn’t just work through obvious rebellion or overt witchcraft. She operates through subtle word curses—manipulative language, fear-based speech, emotional intimidation, and even fake concern.
Jesus warned us: “The thief does not come, except to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10 MEV). Jezebel comes as the thief’s emissary to rob believers of their confidence, joy, and destiny through spoken words cloaked in control.
Childhood Trauma and Transferred Fear
Even our childhood can be a breeding ground for future bondage. I remember how my mother would warn me constantly about storms, illness, and danger. “Batten down the hatches,” she would say, every time a storm was near. While those words may have come from a place of concern, they implanted fear in my mind that lingered for decades. Even as an adult, I found myself afraid of snow, wind, and thunder. I had to be intentional in breaking the power of those words and the demonic assignments they carried.

The Jezebel Cloud Over the Mind
One day in prayer, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that Jezebel operates like a demonic cloud over a person’s mind—hovering, influencing thoughts, triggering fears, and suppressing prophetic boldness. You cannot fully walk in your calling while under the weight of unbroken word curses.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
- Are there lingering fears or anxieties tied to someone’s controlling words?
- Have you been in relationships where your voice was silenced?
- Do you experience constant warfare or mental fog when trying to step out in ministry?
- Have you forgiven those who tried to control or dominate you?
- Are there any words you’ve spoken over yourself or others that need to be repented of?
Breaking the Power of Jezebel’s Words
To dismantle Jezebel’s power, we must do more than pray—we must speak. There is deliverance in your voice.
Steps to Break Word Curses and Jezebel’s Assignments:
- Renounce and Rebuke:
Declare: “I rebuke, break agreement with, and renounce every word curse and demonic assignment spoken over my life, family, ministry, and destiny in Jesus’ name.” - Cancel the Assignment:
“I cancel all word curses and spiritual attacks, and I render them null and void. The power of the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy is broken in Jesus’ name” (John 10:10 MEV). - Speak the Word of God:
“No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises in judgment I shall condemn” (Isaiah 54:17 MEV). - Bind Their Words:
“I bind every negative word, gossip, and curse spoken over my life. I restrict their ability to affect me, in Jesus’ name” (Matthew 18:18 MEV). - Forgive and Release:
Forgiveness is key. You cannot walk in spiritual freedom while harboring offense. Release the person, but bind the personality operating through them. - Pray for Exposure:
“Holy Spirit, expose those who are speaking against me. Convict their hearts and prevent them from harming others with their words.” - Guard Your Own Tongue:
“He who would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit” (1 Peter 3:10 MEV).
Prayer Declarations:
- I declare that every evil word spoken against me is broken by the blood of Jesus.
- I cancel Jezebel’s assignments against my voice, health, ministry, and mind.
- I am covered in the blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
- I forgive those who have cursed me and speak blessings over my enemies.
- I walk in power, love, and a sound mind, and Jezebel has no authority over me.
Scriptures to Speak Daily:
- Psalm 91:10 MEV – “There shall be no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your tent.”
- 2 Corinthians 10:4–5 MEV – “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God…”
- Ephesians 6:16 MEV – “Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one.”
