Spirit-Led Health Transformation | Reverse Sickness and Lose Weight Through the Holy Spirit

November 1, 2019

I’m celebrating one year of an A++ on my doctor report and yearly checkup this month, but I could have been receiving a life-long diagnosis. Two years ago, the Lord quickened me to have bloodwork done. I don’t see doctors unless absolutely necessary. I put my faith in Dr. Jesus!

Upon getting the results of my blood work back, my doctor advised me I was at risk of receiving a permanent diagnosis—one that would impact my insurance and follow my medical record. The Holy Spirit leading me to get bloodwork done was like receiving a “get out of jail free” card in the game of Monopoly.

The Holy Spirit had been guiding me for years in what to eat and what not to eat. He outlined my meals and was having me clean up my eating habits, move toward organic choices, and eliminate GMOs and other food adaptations. I didn’t struggle with food addiction the way many do. My challenge was the opposite: I didn’t eat, so my body retained fat as a survival mechanism.

As a deliverance minister, I’ve witnessed food addictions in my team, my friends, and in the hundreds of people Jesus has set free through my ministry. These bondages were deeply rooted in emotional ailments. Because of this, the Lord has given me great compassion and passion for those who struggle with weight and food-related issues.

I’ve always been drawn to the obese in my meetings and when I do street evangelism. There is a beauty that radiates from within them, a glow on their faces. But what I see on the inside doesn’t always align with how they feel outside. There is a disconnect, and often, a deep pain masked behind food.

I personally lost 25 pounds by cutting out gluten and refined sugar. My husband joined me, not as strictly, and still lost 15 pounds. This wasn’t just about weight loss; it was about obedience, stewardship of the temple God gave us, and listening to the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives.

I now teach on Health and healing in my new book healed at last.

Confronting the Church’s Compromise with Food

Why do we as the body of Christ not tolerate pornography, masturbation, alcoholism, and drug addiction, but we tolerate food addictions? Sin is sin, and addiction is addiction. One must be rooted out and gutted out for life.

I am burdened by what Christians are representing and presenting to the world because of unaddressed food addictions and obesity. How are we modeling physical healing and emotional deliverance from the pulpit if we are in bondage ourselves? Could it be ruining our testimony? Are people hesitant to come up for prayer because they subconsciously judge what they see?

Why aren’t spiritual leaders pursuing healing and deliverance in their eating habits? Why are we tolerating food addiction and emotional eating? Why aren’t we looking at our plates and questioning whether our choices glorify God?

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God.”1 Corinthians 10:31 (MEV)

Friends, I care. I need you to be healthy. I want you to be healthy. The Kingdom needs you to be healthy. The millions of people we are yet to reach for Christ need you healthy. If you’re not healthy, you could be taken out before your time. Obesity, chronic illness, and undisciplined eating can hinder the work Christ has called you to do.

My Turnaround Testimony

I am pleading with you to change. I did. I reversed a pending diagnosis. I brought my numbers back into a normal range. And I got off all blood pressure medication I had been taking for five years. It didn’t happen by accident.

It started with surrender. I asked the Holy Spirit to convict me of my eating. I listened when He told me what to eat and when to fast. I prayed, asking Him to take away my desire for chocolate and give me a heart to exercise. I expected Him to answer, and He did. I also took natural steps: vitamins, supplements, and a nutrition plan based on what God created.

“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”1 Corinthians 9:27 (NKJV)

It was a heart change. A soul surrendered. My motivation wasn’t fear; it was legacy. I wanted to be healthy for my family. I wanted to be physically strong for my Kingdom mission. And I didn’t want any stronghold in my life that gave the enemy access to stop my assignment.

Friends, you can make the same decision today. Invite the Holy Spirit into your kitchen, your cravings, your grocery list. Begin to ask questions that bring transformation:

  • What foods am I eating that are not from God?
  • Am I using food to numb emotions I haven’t allowed the Lord to heal?
  • What physical symptoms am I tolerating that God has already given me authority to overcome?
  • How much of my daily food intake is led by the Spirit versus the soul?

Reclaiming Your Health, Reclaiming Your Mission

Many of us need to reframe the way we see food. Food is fuel, not comfort. Food should nourish, not numb. Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me”John 4:34 (NKJV).

If Jesus found His nourishment in doing the Father’s will, shouldn’t we follow suit? We need to develop spiritual discipline over our plates, our mouths, and our decisions.

There is a battle over your body. It’s not just a medical one. It’s spiritual. The enemy doesn’t want you strong, thriving, energized, or clear-minded. He wants you lethargic, foggy, depressed, and dependent.

But you can flip the script.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” —3 John 1:2 (CJB)

It’s time to prosper physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The same power that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you. He can raise your health. He can resurrect your metabolism. He can renew your habits.

You just need to take the first step.

  • Invite the Holy Spirit into your food decisions daily
  • Renounce emotional eating and food addiction in prayer
  • Fast regularly to reset your spirit and body
  • Cut out processed, refined, chemically altered foods
  • Choose whole, God-created foods
  • Take authority over every diagnosis and speak healing

You were made for more. You were made to feel good. You were made to run your race with strength. Don’t let sugar, processed food, or emotional eating stop you from fulfilling your God-given destiny.

Let the Holy Spirit guide you to full freedom. He will.

Ask Yourself:

  1. What is the Holy Spirit saying about the food I eat daily?
  2. What emotions have I been feeding instead of surrendering?
  3. What healing does my soul need to stop craving comfort food?
  4. How has food been hindering or helping my Kingdom’s purpose?
  5. Do I believe God wants me healthy as part of my calling?
  6. What would change in my life if I truly surrendered my diet to the Lord?
