Say No to Halloween: Why Christians Must Reject This Demonic Holiday

October 22, 2025

Halloween has been embraced by many as an innocent tradition. Churches host harvest fests, believers hand out candy and tracts, and parents dress their children in costumes for what they think is harmless fun. But spiritually, there is no way for Halloween to be redeemed. It is a holiday rooted in witchcraft, curses, and the glorification of death. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are not called to participate in the works of darkness but to expose them.

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
Ephesians 5:11 (NKJV)

The Spiritual Reality of Halloween

While culture markets Halloween as fun and innocent, the demonic realm takes it very seriously. Satanists, witches, and occultists mark it as one of their highest holy days. Curses are released, rituals are performed, and dark covenants are made. Even if you as a Christian believe you are only handing out candy or hosting a harvest alternative, in the spiritual realm you are still participating.

The devil and his demons are not confused. They recognize every opened door. When your porch light is on, when you pass out treats, or when you allow your children to participate, it signals alignment with a demonic holiday.

“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.”
1 Corinthians 10:21 (MEV)

The Danger Behind the Candy

One of the overlooked aspects of Halloween is the candy itself. Beyond the obvious health problems sugar brings—such as obesity, hyperactivity, and disease—witches and Satanists have been known to curse candy. They pray over it in grocery stores and occult gatherings, releasing assignments of infirmity and destruction.

When cursed candy is consumed, it can open the door to sickness, accidents, and demonic oppression. Parents unknowingly give their children food that has been spiritually defiled. What appears harmless becomes a gateway for the enemy.

Curses Don’t Expire

Many believers are unaware that curses released on Halloween are not limited to that night. Witches often time-stamp curses to detonate months later. A sickness that appears in March may have its roots in a curse spoken on October 31.

When I was attacked by a witchcraft curse, it manifested as a very serious health ailment. The Lord revealed through confirmation and physical healing that it was demonic in nature. Praise God, I received a medically verified miracle within three days. I share this testimony in my book Healed at Last, but not everyone receives instant deliverance. Some live under curses for years simply because the door of Halloween was never closed in repentance.

Repenting for Past Participation

Have you repented for celebrating Halloween in the past? Have you asked forgiveness for dressing up as a child or allowing your children to participate? The Lord revealed to me that when we fail to repent for our past involvement, the door remains open for curses to operate.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9 (NKJV)

Repentance is the key to closing these doors permanently. When we renounce our involvement, even ignorantly, we break agreement with the enemy and stop the cycle of demonic oppression.

Why Evangelism on Halloween is Misguided

Many Christians defend Halloween evangelism by saying they hand out tracts, communion, or use it as an opportunity to witness. But why choose the one night of the year that is saturated in witchcraft and competition from the world? We have 364 other days to do evangelistic outreach.

Giving a tract to a trick-or-treater rarely bears fruit. Most end up in the trash. Giving communion to an eight-year-old who doesn’t understand covenant is misplaced. No matter how noble the intention, the action is still tied to the demonic holiday, and in the spiritual realm, it is credited as participation.

Protecting Your Children

Some parents fear their children will feel left out if they don’t participate in Halloween. But raising children in righteousness creates a hunger for holiness, not compromise. Instead of giving them candy, take them for pizza, buy them a special toy, or have a family night of worship.

I pulled my children out of school on Halloween to avoid exposure to gruesome costumes and decorations. They never complained about missing candy because they were raised with discernment. When you lead your family in holiness, your children will feel the spiritual clash and desire purity over participation.

The Call to Spiritual Warfare

On Halloween, believers should not be handing out candy, decorating homes, or attending harvest fests. Instead, we should be interceding, binding, and restricting the enemy’s assignments.

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.”
2 Corinthians 10:4 (MEV)

Churches should host prayer meetings or deliverance services instead of “trunk or treats.” Pastors have an opportunity to turn the most demonic night of the year into a night of victory by confronting the enemy head-on through prayer and deliverance.

You can watch one of my teachings on spiritual warfare and Halloween on my YouTube channel, where I expose the dangers of compromise and equip believers to walk in freedom.

Resources for Freedom

It is a quick but powerful resource to expose the dangers. My book Healed at Last also shares how the Lord miraculously healed me from a witchcraft curse and how you can receive your healing.

For spiritual tools, anointing oil can be a powerful resource to anoint yourself, your family, and your home. You can order Kathy DeGraw’s anointing oil at kathydegrawministries.org. These oils are prayed over, consecrated, and set apart for breakthrough and healing.

Questions to Ask Yourself

  • Have I truly repented for any past participation in Halloween?

  • Am I leaving a door open for curses by treating it as innocent?

  • Do I value my family’s holiness more than cultural acceptance?

  • How can I intercede on October 31 instead of compromising?

Prayer Declarations

Lord Jesus, I repent for any past participation in Halloween.
I renounce every door I have opened through ignorance or compromise.
I plead the blood of Jesus over myself, my children, and my home.
I bind every curse, hex, and demonic assignment released against me.
I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
I will stand in holiness and righteousness, and I choose to expose darkness rather than partner with it.

Choose Holiness Over Compromise

Friend, this October 31, I urge you not to open your door to darkness. Don’t give the enemy any legal right in your life. Instead of celebrating Halloween, choose to intercede, worship, and host the presence of God in your home. Lead your children in righteousness, raise the standard in your community, and take a stand for Christ.

Order my book Say No to Halloween today on Amazon and arm yourself with truth. Get anointing oil from my Ministry shop or Amazon to protect your household. Watch my teachings on YouTube and enroll in a course at training.kathydegrawministries.org to equip yourself further.

This year, make the decision to say no to Halloween—and yes to holiness, deliverance, and the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
