Does God Allow Sickness? Understanding God’s Heart for Healing and Freedom

August 7, 2025

Frustrated that you aren’t being healed and questioning God?

“Why am I still sick?”
“If God is good, why hasn’t He healed me yet?”
“Did I do something to deserve this?”

These are the questions that torment countless Christians in their minds and bodies every day. The enemy uses sickness not only to afflict the body—but to assault our faith, identity, and relationship with God. But here’s the good news: God didn’t create you for sickness. He created you for wholeness. And today, we’re going to expose the lies, renew your mind, and activate your faith for complete healing.

1. Sickness Is Not from God – It’s from the Fall

Let’s settle the first truth: God is not the author of sickness.

When God created Adam and Eve, there was no disease, death, or disorder. Sickness entered the world through sin and the fall of man. Romans 5:12 (MEV) says:

“Therefore, as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death has come to all men because all have sinned.”

Sickness came because we live in a fallen world, but that doesn’t mean it’s God’s will for your life. It’s not a punishment. It’s not a test. It’s a byproduct of a broken world. God’s original design was for us to walk in divine health and dominion, not disease.

2. God Allows What We Allow—But He Offers a Way Out

Yes, in His sovereignty, God may allow sickness, but that doesn’t mean He desires it. Many Christians confuse what God allows with what He wills.

Permission is not the same as commission.

God gives us free will. He’s given us spiritual authority and tools to resist the devil, cast out demons, and walk in healing. But when we don’t use our authority, the enemy takes territory.

As I teach in Healed at Last, many people stay in prolonged sickness because of open doors, emotional wounds, unrenewed minds, and spiritual bondage. God is not the one keeping you sick—but He is the one calling you out of it.

3. The Ministry of Jesus Proves God’s Will Is to Heal

Let’s look at Jesus—the perfect reflection of God’s heart.

John 14:9 (MEV): “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

Did Jesus ever give someone leprosy to teach them a lesson?
Did He ever say, “This blindness is from the Father, so keep it for a few more years”?
No!

Jesus healed everyone who came to Him.

Matthew 8:16-17 (MEV): “He healed all who were sick, to fulfill what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.’”

God’s will is revealed through the actions of Jesus—He came to heal, not harm. He came to destroy the works of the devil, and sickness is one of those works.

4. Spiritual Roots of Sickness: Discernment, Not Blame

Many times, healing doesn’t come simply because we don’t discern the root. In Healed at Last, I walk people through identifying the spiritual causes of physical illness. Sickness isn’t always just biological. It can be:

  • A spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:11)
  • A soul wound left unhealed
  • A generational curse
  • Bitterness, unforgiveness, or emotional trauma
  • Word curses spoken over your body
  • Even agreement with the lie that “this is just my cross to bear”

If the root is spiritual, the solution must be spiritual.

When we only treat the physical symptoms but ignore the spiritual causes, we delay the healing God wants to bring.

5. Deliverance and Healing Go Hand in Hand

You can’t cast out the flesh, and you can’t crucify a demon.

We need both inner healing and deliverance to receive lasting physical healing.

In hundreds of cases I’ve ministered to, people were healed only after they:

  • Forgave someone from their past
  • Renounced a lie they believed about God or themselves
  • Broke a soul tie with a toxic relationship
  • Cast out a spirit of fear or control
  • Released shame or guilt they’d carried for decades

Healing flows when the soul and spirit are aligned with God’s truth. You can’t expect your body to walk in freedom when your mind is still in bondage.

6. God Wants You to War for Your Healing

God’s heart is to heal, but He also invites us to partner with Him.

Matthew 11:12 (MEV): “The kingdom of heaven has forcefully advanced, and the strong take it by force.”

Healing is not passive. It’s not about waiting and hoping. It’s about declaring, believing, and activating what Jesus paid for on the cross.

In my healing ministry, I’ve seen people healed of autoimmune disease, thyroid disorders, and nerve pain—not because of a hand laid on them—but because they began to:

  • Speak life over their body
  • Renounce death and disease
  • Take authority over lying spirits
  • Soak in God’s presence daily
  • Fast and pray with purpose

God wants you co-laboring with Him, not waiting in passivity.

7. Common Lies That Keep Believers Bound in Sickness

Let’s expose some common lies the enemy uses:

Lie #1: “God gave me this sickness to teach me a lesson.”

Truth: The Holy Spirit is your teacher, not sickness.

Lie #2: “If it’s God’s will, He’ll heal me.”

Truth: God’s will is in His Word, and His Word says, “By His stripes, you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24 MEV).

Lie #3: “I don’t have enough faith to be healed.”

Truth: Jesus said faith as small as a mustard seed is enough (Luke 17:6).

Lie #4: “Maybe I deserve this.”

Truth: Jesus took what you deserved so you could receive what He deserved—healing and wholeness.

8. God’s Healing Covenant Still Stands

Exodus 15:26 (MEV): “For I am the Lord who heals you.”

This wasn’t just for the Israelites in the wilderness. God still reveals Himself today as Jehovah Rapha, your Healer.

Psalm 103:3 (MEV): “Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.”

God is not withholding healing. The cross released it. The Holy Spirit is delivering it. The question is—are you receiving it?

9. Activation: Break Agreement with Sickness Today

Let’s shift from theory to practice. Say this out loud:

“In the name of Jesus, I break agreement with every lie that sickness is from God.
I renounce every curse, trauma, and demonic spirit connected to my illness.
I declare Jesus is my healer. His blood paid for my health.
By His stripes, I am healed. I receive it now. Amen!”

Now begin to praise God not just for what He will do, but for what He’s already done!

10. Practical Steps to Walk in Healing Daily

  1. Speak healing scriptures daily – personalize them.
  2. Anoint yourself with oil and declare God’s healing power.
  3. Take communion regularly as a prophetic act of receiving healing.
  4. Fast and pray to break strongholds and hear God clearly.
  5. Repent for any unforgiveness or sin that may be a blockage.
  6. Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment of emotional/spiritual roots.
  7. Read Healed at Last and follow the prayers and steps.
  8. Don’t give up—healing is often progressive, not just instant.
