A Curse Without Cause Cannot Stand
Proverbs declares, “Like a fluttering sparrow or a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight” (Proverbs 26:2, NKJV). God’s Word assures us that curses cannot simply rest upon us without reason. However, this truth does not give us license to be passive. Scripture also commands us to be vigilant, alert, and active in our faith.
We must recognize the enemy’s schemes and dismantle his tactics through the blood of Jesus, prayer, anointing, and speaking God’s Word. Especially during heightened demonic seasons like Halloween, witchcraft and curses are being sent against the people of God. But friends, we do not have to live under fear, torment, or bondage. We can break every curse and walk in victory.
This teaching will equip you with biblical understanding and practical application so you can destroy word curses, uproot witchcraft, cleanse cursed objects, break generational poverty and sickness, and live free in Christ.
The Power of the Tongue: Word Curses We Speak
The Bible warns us: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21, MEV).
Words carry weight in the spiritual realm. Many believers unknowingly curse themselves and others by speaking phrases like:
- “I’m going to die laughing.”
- “You’re going to kill me for that.”
- “I’ll never have enough.”
- “I can’t do this.”
These careless words activate the spirit of death, poverty, and defeat. Years ago, I sat in a conference where someone prayed deliverance over me, casting out the spirit of death. I felt three demons leave at that moment. Why? Because my own tongue had partnered with death.
We must cancel every ungodly word we have spoken. Pray aloud:
In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent for every negative word I have spoken over my life or others. I renounce those words, cancel their assignment, and break every word curse at its root. I speak life, blessing, and abundance in Jesus’ name.
Breaking Word Curses Spoken Against Us
Not only do our words matter, but the words others speak over us can also establish curses. Maybe you’ve heard things like:
- “You’ll never succeed.”
- “You’ll always be broke.”
- “You’ll never get married.”
- “You’ll always be sick.”
These words can lodge into our souls if we do not actively reject and renounce them. Jesus has given us authority to bind and cancel the enemy’s assignments. “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18:18, MEV).
Declare this prayer:
I reject every word curse spoken against me, my family, my finances, and my destiny. I break agreement with lies and accusations. By the blood of Jesus, I uproot these curses and declare they shall bear no fruit in my life.
Stopping Word Curses Over Our Children
We must also be mindful of how we speak over our children. Saying things like “He’s so accident prone,” “She’s always sick,” “He has a learning disability” are word curses. Our role as parents is to bless, not curse.
Instead, speak:
- “My child is covered by the blood of Jesus.”
- “She has the mind of Christ.”
- “He is protected by angels.”
- “She will walk in wisdom, health, and success.”
When you shift your words, you shift the atmosphere.
Exposing Witchcraft and Demonic Curses
Many believers assume curses only affect “high-profile ministers.” But if you are a Christian, witches, warlocks, and satanists target you. Especially in October, curses are actively released.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV).
Notice it does not say weapons won’t form—it says they will not prosper. That means curses may be sent, but through Christ, we have the authority to dismantle them before they land.
During October, my husband and I read aloud from my book Prophetic Spiritual Warfare every night. We pray strong warfare prayers that dismantle demonic blueprints and prevent assignments from activating. These prayers bind and restrict witchcraft and curses before they can manifest.
I encourage you: pray offensively, not just defensively. Don’t wait until a curse shows up in your life—proactively break them.
Identifying Poverty Curses
Poverty is not just a financial condition—it can be a curse. Constant lack, inability to tithe, or always purchasing “day-old bread” when you could afford fresh bread are symptoms of a poverty mindset.
Scripture declares, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 1:2, NKJV).
Ask yourself:
- Do I constantly say, “I can’t afford it”?
- Am I living in fear of lack?
- Is poverty running through my family line?
If yes, pray:
In Jesus’ name, I break every poverty curse over my life and bloodline. I renounce lack and poverty. I declare I am blessed, abundant, and prosperous according to the riches in Christ Jesus.
Recognizing Cursed Objects
Curses can also be attached to objects. Items purchased overseas may be dedicated to false gods. Jewelry, statues, and artifacts can carry demonic attachments.
Deuteronomy 7:26 warns: “Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. But you shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing” (Deuteronomy 7:26, NKJV).
Pray:
Holy Spirit, reveal to me any cursed items in my home. I renounce every object dedicated to false gods. I remove and destroy anything carrying demonic influence in Jesus’ name.
Breaking Health-Related Curses
If you are always sick, constantly in accidents, or battling generational illnesses, a curse may be operating.
Jesus gave us authority: “Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases” (Luke 9:1, MEV).
One of our children had an accident every year until age 13. Once we discerned the pattern, we broke the curse in prayer. Afterward, the cycle stopped.
Ask the Lord:
- Is my sickness connected to a generational curse?
- Is there a word curse or witchcraft assignment against my health?
- What legal ground must I close to walk in healing?
Using Anointing Oil as a Weapon of Warfare
Anointing oil is not just symbolic—it is a spiritual tool to break curses, consecrate yourself, and drive out the enemy.
When I was cursed and ended up in the hospital facing a potential cancer diagnosis, I continually anointed myself. I declared: “I am set apart for God. I break and destroy every curse by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Within three days, I received a medically verified miracle. The biopsy came back clear, and I was healed.

Living in Faith, Not Fear
Breaking curses requires boldness, not fear. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV).
Fear attracts curses; faith destroys them. Live in the truth of Psalm 91:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1, MEV).
Daily communion, daily anointing, and daily decrees will position you in victory.
Questions to Ask Yourself
- Am I speaking life or death over myself and others?
- Have I repented for ungodly words I’ve spoken?
- Are there recurring patterns of poverty, sickness, or accidents in my family?
- Do I own any objects that may be cursed or dedicated to false gods?
- Am I proactively breaking witchcraft curses during heightened seasons?
- Have I made anointing oil and communion part of my warfare strategy?
Practical Steps for Breaking Curses
- Repent for every ungodly word spoken.
- Renounce and cancel word curses spoken against you.
- Stop speaking negative declarations over yourself and your children.
- Remove and destroy cursed objects from your home.
- Pray against witchcraft offensively during demonic seasons.
- Break generational curses of poverty, sickness, and death.
- Anoint yourself and your home daily with oil.
- Take communion regularly as a prophetic act of covenant protection.
- Declare and decree scriptures aloud daily.
- Live in faith, not fear, knowing no weapon formed will prosper.

- If my words carry life and death, how many curses have I unknowingly spoken into my own future, and how can I reverse them?
- What hidden agreements with poverty, fear, or sickness must I renounce to walk fully in God’s promises?
- Am I proactively protecting my home, or am I waiting for curses to manifest before responding?
- How can I partner with communion, anointing oil, and scripture decrees as part of my daily warfare?
- Where am I allowing fear to hinder my faith, and what scripture will I use to replace it?
- How would my life shift if I fully believed that every curse can be broken through the blood of Jesus Christ?
