When Loved Ones Reject Truth | Praying Through Pride, Deception, and Spiritual Blindness

June 6, 2023

There is no pain like watching someone you love walk away from truth. You speak. You plead. You pray. Yet your voice seems drowned in a sea of pride, and the voice of reason is rejected in favor of self-made wisdom. Their heart, once tender to the things of God, is now guarded by self-sufficiency and intellect. It’s like watching someone caught in a spiritual fog. They cannot see that they are walking in darkness. What do you do when your loved one is blinded by their own understanding?

You Do Battle in the Spirit

This isn’t a battle of intellect or persuasion—it is spiritual warfare. When pride builds a wall, it takes the Spirit of God to tear it down.

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds”
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 MEV

The stronghold of pride is real. The spirit of control builds fortresses around the heart. You may be facing not just human resistance, but demonic strongholds that have blinded their eyes.

“But if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden to those who are lost. The god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe…”
— 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 MEV

The blindness is not just emotional; it is spiritual. That’s why debates and arguments fall short. This battle must be fought in prayer, with fasting if necessary, calling on the name of Jesus to pierce through the deception.

Trust God’s Timing and Sovereignty

One of the most difficult things is trusting God when we see someone spiraling. But His arm is not too short to save.

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.”
— Isaiah 59:1 NKJV

We must learn to surrender even our deepest burdens. Sometimes that means stepping back and letting God do what only He can do. The Holy Spirit is still working even when we see no evidence. Silence is not absence.

“He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
Philippians 1:6 MEV

Why Do People Turn Away from Truth?

There are many reasons a person can reject the truth:

  • Pride: An unwillingness to admit they’re wrong
  • Control: A fear of surrendering to God’s plan
  • Wounds: Past trauma causing distrust of spiritual authority
  • Deception: A demonic veil clouding their discernment

They may even twist Scripture to fit their agenda. The enemy knows how to manipulate thoughts, and without proper discernment, people begin to follow “another gospel.”

“For the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine… they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn to myths.”
— 2 Timothy 4:3-4 MEV

What Should We Do as Intercessors?

  1. Stay in the secret place.
The greatest warfare is done through intimacy with God. Let your tears be your intercession.
  2. Fast and decree.
Fasting humbles the soul and aligns your spirit with heaven. Decree their deliverance out loud and in faith.
  3. Speak truth without striving.
Don’t be baited into arguments. Release truth, then retreat to prayer.

“A servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but must be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition…”
2 Timothy 2:24-26 MEV

Ask Yourself:

  • Have I taken this battle into the spirit or remained in the flesh?
  • Am I trusting the Holy Spirit to convict, or am I trying to be the Holy Spirit?
  • Am I harboring offense or bitterness toward the person I’m praying for?
  • Have I fasted and decreed the Word of God over their life?
  • What specific stronghold might be influencing them?

Prayer Declarations:

  1. I declare that every veil of deception is lifted in Jesus’ name.
  2. I speak the mind of Christ over my loved one—clarity, truth, and peace.
  3. I break every soul tie and demonic alliance that blinds them from truth.
  4. I call forth divine encounters and supernatural conviction.
  5. I decree the Word of the Lord will not return void.
  6. I loose the Spirit of truth to flood their heart and mind.
  7. I cancel the assignment of pride and rebellion over their life.
  8. I speak a soft heart, ready to receive the implanted Word.
  9. I proclaim that heaven’s perspective overrides every lie of the enemy.
  10. I declare today is the day of salvation and deliverance.

The road may feel long, but God hears every prayer. Sometimes the greatest miracles begin in the silence of the secret place. Be still, and know He is God. Don’t surrender your intercession. Press in, and press through. You are not alone.

Keep calling them forth from darkness into light. Speak life. Anoint their name in prayer. And trust that the God who loves them more than you ever could, will not fail to bring them home.

Encourage Others to Stand in Faith

If you are standing for the salvation or deliverance of a loved one, share this post and encourage others to war alongside you. We need a company of believers who will not be silent but will stand on the Word of God for breakthrough.

Their freedom is not only possible—it is promised.
Let’s agree together in prayer and declare:

“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you and your household will be saved.”
— Acts 16:31 MEV
